Grammar Tips Grammar Test Importance of a Style Guide

"Some editors are failed writers, but so are most writers."
T. S. Eliot (1888–1965)

"Typos are very important to all written form. It gives the reader something to look for so they aren't distracted by the total lack of content in your writing."
Randy K. Milholland, Something Positive Comic, 07/03/05

Are You a Grammar Obsessive?

  • If you were “out to lunch” during grade-school English class
  • If you hated your English teacher because that diagramming stuff drove you nuts
  • If you can honestly say that you didn’t get to where you are today by knowing how to spell (but you sometimes wonder how much farther you can go)

then you are NOT a grammar obsessive...and you probably need one.

Good grammar is rarely noticed. Bad grammar is noticed by those who know better. Your customers may know better, so why take the chance? A Written Word adds quality to the language in your documentation whether we write it ourselves or whether you ask us to edit other writers’ material. A Written Word is grammar obsessive. We admit it.

"...I have to compliment the technical editing done by Carol Elkins...She is a first-rate editor who forces us all to use a common set of style rules that results in the manuals in our library having a standard and professional appearance."
Paul Kinnecom, Exec. Dir. Tank Car Safety, Association of American Railroads

"...You have been very flexible and always quick on your edits. I am very impressed by the quality of your work."
Rae Ann Vandeputte, Project Manager
Health Systems International
